Want to help local Democrats? Here’s how!

Not a week goes by that someone doesn’t ask me how they can help keep Milam County blue.

Well, here’s a way you can go about it. This coming Saturday, there will be an informal gathering of interested Democrats to explore launching a Milam County chapter of the Texas Democratic Women.

Mary Ridgeway will host the event at 2 p.m. Saturday in the rec hall of Grace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. The church is located at 247 N. Wilcox.

We’ve had expressions of support from the state organization and from a very active Bell County group.

Having a local TDW chapter will give Milam County Democrats a social outlet, but more importantly, it will establish a group — outside the formal party structure — that can work to elect (and re-elect) Democratic women to county office. It can also help build a grassroots plan so all Democrats can have positive state and local outcomes in the 2012 election.

Membership is not limited to women. If you are an elected Democrat, or you are married to an elected Democrat, or you know someone who is an elected Democrat, you need to turn every effort to being in Rockdale this Saturday and to bring a few of your friends along with you.

This is a very, very important component to our success in 2012. Our local elected Democrats really need to see us active. This is a great way to express your confidence and willingness to work on their behalf. If you know one of the large number of folks locally who do not have an email address, please pass this on to them.

Grace Lutheran Church is located at 247 N. Wilcox, Rockdale. For more information, you can contact  Mary at 512-773-1765.
